Villages all over the country, including ChaiVillageLA, will be simultaneously gathering to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the village movement, celebrating the year when visionaries gathered in Beacon Hill, Boston to start the first village. This free program will feature surgeon/writer Atul Gawande, MD, MPH, who will be interviewed by Robin Young, host of NPR’s Here and Now during a live-streamed program. Focusing on his highly celebrated book “Being Mortal,” Dr. Gawande will explore balancing the quality of life with the preservation of life. He will also address the value of community and connection as we age, the same value that gave birth to the Village Movement 15 years ago.
Following the program, Temple Emanuel of Beverly Hills Rabbi Emerita Laura Geller and Temple Isaiah Rabbi Zoë Klein will lead a discussion based upon the interview between Dr. Gwande and Ms. Young.
This program is open to village members, all temple congregants and the public.
