Joys and Challenges of Aging with Dr. Gary Small
About this event
Catching Cognitive Decline Early
As people age, they are at increased risk for cognitive decline. Ten percent of people age 65 or older develop dementia, a cognitive impairment that disrupts independence. By age 85 and older, that risk approaches 40 percent. This presentation will explain how to distinguish the normal forgetfulness associated with aging from more significant cognitive decline that may impair an individual's capacity to provide informed consent. It will also review current medical treatments and lifestyle interventions that may help delay the onset or progression of Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia.
